Handling underdelivery in a gaming inventory package

Define a gaming inventory shortfall, find the delivery constraint and agree on a response that preserves the booked brief.

When a gaming package falls behind, establish which committed quantity is at risk and whether enough eligible supply remains before the end date. Identify the constraint and agree on a response that meets the brief. A forecast shortfall is a warning; the agreement and final eligible count determine whether a contractual shortfall occurred.

Define the shortfall

Separate guaranteed lines from estimates and auction-bought inventory. For each committed line, record the agreed quantity, dates, counted event, approved games or placements, Australian eligibility rule and eligible delivery to date. The remaining obligation is the contracted quantity less eligible counted delivery, floored at zero. Show delivery outside the agreed scope separately.

Elapsed-time pacing can flag a line for review, but it is not a supply forecast. Ask the seller for a forecast based on the current eligible inventory and settings.

Guaranteed Lines vs Estimates in Gaming Inventory

  • Guaranteed LinesContractually committed quantity; eligible delivery tracked against agreed dates, games, placements, and Australian eligibility rules.
  • EstimatesNon-binding projections; not subject to contractual delivery obligations or makegood provisions.

Find the constraint

Inspect the level at which delivery is missing: game, placement, device, format, creative or date. Ask whether eligible requests are available, whether a required bid or response arrives, and whether the creative can serve and render.

Google Ad Manager and Display & Video 360 both provide troubleshooting pages for line item and deal delivery. Those tools indicate where to investigate; they do not diagnose a campaign without its records.

A missing size, inactive association or pending approval can resemble a supply problem. Loosening targeting will not fix an asset that cannot serve. Record the suspected cause, supporting evidence, proposed fix, revised forecast and any effect on the Australian brief.

Agree on a response

Options may include more time on the same inventory, an approved replacement, a makegood or the financial treatment stated in the booking. Compare each option with the original audience, player experience, geography, measurement and timing. Extra impressions in another game are not automatically equivalent to a missed named placement.

A makegood is one possible remedy. Check the platform's documented makegood process and the booking terms for eligibility and controls.

Record the approved response with its quantity, dates, eligible inventory, reporting and cost treatment. Report original delivery and remedy delivery separately. At close, compare the eligible count with the commitment and refer unresolved differences for commercial review.

If eligible supply or an equivalent substitute cannot be established, document the shortfall plainly rather than presenting only a package total.
